What is an AVGS?
The term AVGS stands for “Activation and Placement Voucher” in German. This voucher is issued by the Federal Employment Agency or the Jobcenter and allows for government funding of educational measures that can assist in job searches, such as coaching.
How can I find out if and how I can receive an AVGS?
In general, individuals who have been unemployed for at least six weeks within the last three months and are receiving benefits (e.g. ALG 1) can apply for an AVGS. However, they must not have been placed in a job yet. Typically, you will receive the AVGS from your counselor at the Jobcenter or the Federal Employment Agency. Even if you do not meet the criteria, you can still apply, and your application will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
